Places on the Map--and Off

"I learned that sometimes a journey can take you to a place that is not on any map." --Cold Fever

It's almost summer and I'm getting ready for a few summer trips that I'm excited about--St. Maarten with my mom and dad, Los Angeles to teach a summer course, then a Southern California (side note--the picture is from my last trip to CA) to the Grand Canyon road trip with my mom and sister in August.  And I want to share about those adventure, but there's more to my summer and my life right now than just fun trips that I'm planning to take in the next few months.
There's the issue of not having a job for next year, and the journey through working in an elementary school for the past two years, which is winding down.  There's also this idea that I've been kicking around since I was oh, about ten, of being a writer and the new determination I have to collect 25 rejection letters from publishers by summer's end.  There's the promise I made to myself to try to write for an hour several times a week--maybe everyday this summer--and the belief I have that something might just come of it if I do.
So that brings us here, to the place that I am going to try to put some writing (and maybe a few pictures along the way) out into the universe and maybe have a few people read it.  So if you are reading it--be prepared--some of it will be about a physical journey, some of it will be about those which you don't find on a map, as the movie Cold Fever so aptly puts it. (Full disclosure, I have no idea what this film is about, since I'd never heard of it until about fifteen minutes ago when Google gave me this gem of a quote.  Apparently it's an Icelandic film from the 1990s--that's as far as I got.)
Also, for the first time ever I'm going to try to be faithful about writing here, but I'm not going to stick to a strict schedule.  I'm going to wait until I have something to say :)
Happy Wednesday!
